Engineered hardwood's dimensionally stable core resists the expansion and contraction caused by Florida's high humidity — a common problem with solid hardwood installed on concrete slabs. We recommend engineered hardwood for most Florida homes, reserving solid hardwood for second-floor installations with good climate control.
Can engineered hardwood be refinished?
Yes — most engineered hardwood can be lightly sanded and refinished 1–3 times, depending on the veneer thickness. Products with a 3mm+ veneer can typically be refinished once or twice. Ask our team about the specific products we carry and their refinish capacity.
How thick should engineered hardwood veneer be?
We recommend a minimum 3mm wear layer for residential installations intended to last 20+ years. Thicker veneers (4–6mm) allow more sanding and refinishing cycles, extending the floor's useful life. Budget engineered hardwood with 1–2mm veneers cannot be meaningfully refinished.
What species of engineered hardwood are available?
